    The Lord’s Prayer

    ◎ Matthew 6:9~13

9   Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

10  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

11  Give us this day our daily bread,

12  And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass

    against us.

13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

◎ Our Lord taught us what we ought to pray for

    1) Our Father, who art in heaven:

To whom we pray? Our Father. God is our Father. This name makes us feel intimacy and trust. God is good and willing to hear our prayers.

    2) hallowed be thy name:

We ought to bless the name of God, recognizing God’s greatness.

    3) Thy kingdom come:

May God’s kingdom be known among us and come quickly to all.

    4) thy will be done:

Our desire as God’s children is to do God’s will above our own in everything(Matthew 6:33).

    5) on earth as it is in heaven:

May God’s will be done willingly, continually, and perfectly by all(Luke 17:21).

    6) Give us this day our daily bread:

Give us our daily needs, so that we may grow physically and spiritually(John 6:35).

    7) And forgive us our trespasses:

Only God can forgive sin, so we turn to God alone(Mark 1:15).

    8) as we forgive those who trespass against us:

God forgives us to the same extent we forgive others(Matthew 18:22).

    9) And lead us not into temptation:

Lead us safely through our many trials and temptations(James 1:12).

    10) but deliver us from evil:

Fill our hearts with the Word of God and the Holy Spirit(Matthew 4:4).

    11) For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever:

God is only the Creator and the Saviour and the Judge(2 Timothy 4:18).

    12) Amen:

Let this prayer be true in us.
