General Rules of the Methodists

 

 

◎ By doing no harm

“Abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:22)

 

• The taking the name of God in vain. (Exodus 20:7)

• The profaning the day of the Lord

• Drunkenness (buying or selling spirituous liquors, or drinking them)

• Fighting, quarrelling, brawling(unnecessary argument)

• The buying or selling uncustomed goods

• The giving or taking things on usury

 

◎ By doing good

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

 

• by giving food to the hungry, by clothing the naked, by visiting or helping them that are sick or in prison. (Matthew 25:35~39)

• by doing good especially to them that are of the household of faith. (Galatians 6:10)

• by running with patience the race that is set before them (Hebrews 12:1), denying themselves and taking up their cross daily. (Matthew 16:24)

 

◎ By attending on all the ordinances of God

“Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.” (Romans 12:11)

 

• The public worship of God

• Bible Study and Class meeting (James 5:16)

• Holy Communion

• Family and private prayer

• Fasting or abstinence
