God the Holy Spirit

 

 

◎ Q. Who is God the Holy Spirit?

A. The third Person of the Trinity, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

☞ “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.”(John 15:26)

☞ “these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.”(1 Corinthians 2:10)

 

◎ Q. How does God relate to us through the Holy Spirit?

A. The Holy Spirit convinces human beings of sin, righteousness, and judgment; leads us into faithful response to the gospel; comforts, sustains, and empowers the righteous; and leads us into all truth.

☞ “For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.”(1 Thessalonians 4:7-8)

☞ “And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”(Romans 8:27)

 

◎ Q. How can we receive the Holy Spirit?

A. Through means of grace, such as the sacraments, prayer, worship, and reading Scripture.

☞ “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”(1 Corinthians 11:25)

☞ “Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.”(2 Corinthians 6:1)

☞ “praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.”(Ephesians 6:18)

☞ “for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.”(1 Timothy 4:5)

☞ “Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation.”(1 Peter 2:2)
