존 웨슬리의 리더십 이관수 지도자의 권위는 어디에서 오는가? 하나님의 역사는 하나님이 사용하시고자 하는 사람을 통해, 그리고 하나님이 원하시는 때와 장소를 통해 이루어진다. 이것이 하나님의 뜻이다. 인간의 지혜는 하나님의 뜻 앞에 어리석음일 수밖에 없다. 교회사의 위대한 인물들이 가진 공통점은 자신을 들어 사용하신 하나님 앞에 겸손하였다는 점이다. 그들은 하나님의 뜻을 깨닫고, 하나님이 하신 일을 경험하였기 때문에, 자신을 드러내려 하지 않고 하나님의 일하심에 관심했다. 이러한 사람들 중의 한 사람이 바로 18세기 영국 국교회(the Church of England)의 목사였던 존 웨슬리이다. 따라서 우리는 18세기 영국에서 메소디스트(Methodist) 부흥운동을 일으킨 인물인 웨슬리에게 초점을 맞추기..

웨슬리 트레이시 외의 오늘 제가 소개할 책은 4명의 저자가 함께 만든 영성훈련 책, 입니다. 웨슬리 트레이시 외 3명의 저자는 모두 미국 나사렛 교단의 목회자들입니다. 우리나라도 나사렛 교단이 있는데, 일반적으로 교인들은 잘모르는 것 같습니다. 한국의 나사렛 교회는 상대적으로 미국의 상황에 비해 잘 알려지지 않았습니다. 나사렛 교회는 메소디스트 교회처럼 웨슬리안 전통의 교회입니다. 역사적으로는 성령세례를 좀더 강조하는 특색으로 미국 메소디스트 교회에서 분리되었습니다. 또한 미국 나사렛 교회도 Orton Wiley, William Greathouse 등을 통해 웨슬리 신학과 전통을 세우는 노력을 해왔습니다. 한국에 나사렛 교회가 잘 알려지지 않은 까닭에 미국의 나사렛 교단 출판사인 Beacon Hill P..
